Nereid marks a milestone for me in my art making process. Before this piece, I had never considered letting go of my footage to someone else to edit. I am usually a control fanatic about all aspects of production, especially editing.
When I gave the footage to Michael Lachowyn for the purposes of making the soundscape, I released it under the assumption that he would give me a sound file that I would edit the footage to. What happened instead was a blessing. Michael edited the whole film as he composed the music for the piece. In hindsight, this made perfect sense.
Upon completing the project, I made a final edit that was more technical cleanup rather than creative. I have learned over time that it is always more important to consider what is best for the project above all other concerns.
